Civil Rights

Where the government or state intrudes on protected civil liberties, a lawsuit is way to protect, and to provide a remedy.

Even where state or governmental action is not at issue, individuals may still be protected from discrimination where the wrongful conduct occurs at "business establishments" or other "organizations".

The Law Office of Thomas G. Briody represents individuals with claims based on:
  • Police misconduct and brutality
  • Wrongful arrest and/or false imprisonment
  • Discrimination based on race, gender or religion

Recently Mr. Briody has represented two African-American men who claim civil rights violations by the Westerly and Scituate, Rhode Island police departments. In both cases these innocent men claim they were subject to unreasonable seizure by police officers while driving along public roads. Both men are seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
